What a beautiful hike it was! I was pleasantly surprised at the abundance of wildflowers- and so many colors: yellows, purples, reds, blues, and whites. I’m glad I went. I took bunches of pictures and was thinking to post them on my website for others to enjoy.
Then I got to thinking about the couples retreat which was always the last weekend in April. We offer horseback rides during the afternoon activity. Surely they would love to horseback ride up Old House Branch to see the same beautiful scenes I had come across just a week earlier. I found out there is a narrow window of time these flowers appear each spring. From one Friday to the following Saturday, most of the flowers had disappeared. As we rode the horses up that trail, there were still some flowers, but not the number, and all of the amazing white flowers were gone. I was a bit sad not being able to show others what had been so glorious the week before. How quickly the flowers fade.
These words bring verses to my mind. They bring a contrast to my thoughts. I was sad the flowers had faded so soon, but I am so glad there is something in my life that does not disappoint, or fade away, or wither. There are many bible verses on the subject of flowers and grass fading.
Isaiah 40: verses 7 and 8, “The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
God’s word does not fade. It is strong and powerful. It will endure forever. It makes me at peace to know and understand this truth. Do you know about this truth? Have you heard about Jesus and His love for you and have you found precious verses to commit to memory to help you with life each day? Have you searched the scriptures for verses that give hope?
1 Peter 1:verses 3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.
Have you gotten your reservation?
Have you repented of your sins, said yes to Jesus, and made Him Lord of your life?
1 Peter 1 verse 25 -1 Peter 2:3 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, through the work of God which lives and abides forever, because All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
Do you see the contrast of fading vs. enduring? Everything in this world fades away… ...me…and you. Everything…but one thing… God’s word…It stands forever.
I am thankful that the beautiful flowers remind me of God’s enduring word.
Have a great day!
