This is what Nate and I are doing. We drove to Pigeon Forge, TN to see the Dixie Stampede. I brought along my sketch book and I'm glad I did. We were told not to video tape or use cameras. No one said a thing about my sketch book. It's one thing to bring it along. It's another to use it - to get beyond self consciousness and just play with the pencil on the paper.
There was a preshow where three guys played their instruments and sang familiar songs. What better time to open up the sketch book.
The Dixie Stampede was great. I'm glad I did my sketching when I did, for things were darker in the huge arena, and we were all busy eating and watching. I think it's something to take my family to.
