Almost every evening like from 8pm to 10pm, is writing/editing time, so tonight the words "Cave Puppies" will have a bigger font and be white instead of black so it will show up better. There is much work to do on writing projects the next few weeks before camp starts.
Camp starts in just a few weeks! Next week is work week at camp. From Monday through Friday morning all camp staff clean and fix as many things around camp as possible to prepare for summer camp. There is a lot of work to do with the horses too. They must be ready for lots of youth. LOTS of YOUTH! :)
We will check all the equipment. Some things are wore out. Checking horse equipment is like going on a scavenger hunt. Checking every buckle, every pressure point for problems or potential problems. Have you ever gone on a trail ride and the bridle breaks? It can be nerve racking. I've gotten used to putting a few pieces of baling twine in my emergency kit/trail pack...just in case.
There are some new bridles to purchase. Morning Star and Pheobe are new this year. We need to make sure all their tack (bridle, saddle, halter, etc,) fits well. Poor fitting equipment can be one of the main problems for horses attitudes. It's just like you, reader. How well do you walk with a tiny pebble in your shoe? It is agitating! Horses react to uncomfortable pressures too. We want them to be happy horses.
Pheobe, may not be suitable for campers yet. I rode her Tuesday and she was kicking at the fly spray as I was spraying it on her legs. I know it is that she is not used to this and it will, in time, be nothing to her, but even those actions can lead to bad situations if staff/campers are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Pheobe needs consistent attention for the next few weeks. Consistent hands-on gentle training works wonders.
Now you know about some of our work, both literary and "horsey", and Nate and I ask for your prayer in these matters.
Time to get moving for the day: give baby goat his bottle, take sheep and goats down the hill to pasture for the day, feed bunnies (and pick up a few and pet them - petting zoo animals - another summer activity), get to camp at 11 and load rich old horse dirt in a pick up truck for a nearby college to use for flower beds, take trail ride with two friends at noon...then drive to Willard area help some girls with Bible lessons in the late afternoon. It is going to be a busy, but good day.
My attention has been in Psalms 139 lately:
vs. 14 "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
vs.23-24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
