I’ve been researching the effects that the lack of water has on a body. It’s not good.
Since the body is composed of about 70% percent water, it is reasonable to say our body needs it to function. There are several symptoms of not drinking enough water, but three I want to mention, that I feel when I’ve dehydrated myself are headaches, fatigue and lower back aches.
Lower back aches. Really? From not drinking enough water? An article I read recently, Lack of water and Lower Back Pain, said that between our vertebra are small discs. They are made of two parts. The outer layer and the inner part which is a gelatinous substance requires water to do its job of supporting the spine properly. Most water is absorbed into these discs during the night, while sleeping, and some during the day. Without adequate water the inner part of the disc deflates a little making the outer part of the disc do the job of support it shoudn’t have to do…and therefore…a lower back ache. I’m finding that the simple cure for my lower back pains is drinking enough water. Juice, milk, coffee, some tea, and soda doesn’t count because it takes water to digest them taking even more water out of our bodies. I guess I need to start treating those drinks as food and not as fluid for good body function…the thing is…I have to choose it…to want it…to know it’s important for me to feel better.
Just as water is import for our physical health, there is another type of water for our Spiritual health. It’s called living water. It’s only found in trusting Jesus.
John 4: 14 says, “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. This is precious water! Another verse is Isaiah 12: 3 which says, “Therefore with joy you shall draw water from the wells of salvation.” How I need this water. When I look to Jesus I am cleansed from sin. I am trusting in Him to provide. I am being guided by Him in my speech, my actions. Most of all when I trust in Jesus for salvation, asking him to forgive me of my sins and coming into my life, He gives the living water and another gift too…everlasting life.
That’s better that the Holy Grail as actors in some movies search for.
I am going to work on that water consumption to help my health and hopefully at the end of the day I can say…hmmm…feeling pretty good…and I also desire to take in that living water by spending time in the Word and taking time to pray – that’s a spiritually healthy choice.
