A little while ago I was walking down the road in the darkness. The sky was clear and the stars shone brightly. As I gazed across the fields of darkness, the fireflies flicked their light making a twinkling all over the fields and up the rock wall just beyond. It was a beautiful night to walk, a delight. I ask myself the question… if I delight in this scene, how much more does God delight in it?
I look in my little realm of life and see many beautiful things if I choose, but it is just like looking through a knot-hole in a privacy fence trying to see a parade go by, while God is like the eagle up in the sky looking down on the parade and seeing every detail.
What delight that must be! -To have created this whole earth and to enjoy all of it. God is omnipresent, so yes, He can see all of it at once, and enjoy all that He has created. Delighting is my word for the day.
There are so many things to delight in every day. Sometimes though, my mind is clouded with the pressures of life or I am so filled with my own agenda that I neglect to take time to stop and stand in awe of what is all around me. Do you ever feel this?
It is good. That is what God said over and over in Genesis as He created each day. It is good. He delighted in all that He created.
I am asking you to look up from your work and take note what is around you. Find something to delight in.
I know there are terrible situations out there. I know there are houses so cram-packed to full of stuff, there is but a trail, if that, and hearts that once delighted so much in Stuff, now is finding that the stuff causes stress in the lives around it.
Our hearts can be so cram-packed with stuff too, that we can’t enjoy the moments.
I want to delight today. I want to enjoy what God has given, and find ways to give and to glorify Him.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
