NORWAY- Preparing 05/04/2010
Hello Everyone! Here is a short up-date on what I have been doing to prepare for my mission trip. I am excited about how God has been moving throughout the past months! God has been answering prayers in the ways of my financial circumstances and I want to thank the people who have sent in their support already. God has used you in a great way, in showing Himself to me, through answering of prayer. I am still a ways away from being fully funded. I know God will provide the rest of the support I need if I only trust in Him and allow Him to provide for my needs. Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” To help raise some of the funds I need lately, I have been baking, it seems, non-stop. From chocolate chip cookies and ginger bread, to elegant cakes and fudge. It’s a broad category and I am excited to learn new techniques about baking. God has given me an interest in this category and I have been using it for God’s glory in this process of my mission trip. Some of the places I have been selling my cookies and fudge are to different stores and offices around Hazard and to ‘Pickens and grinnens’ an Appalachian cultured event complete with bluegrass music and a type of square dancing. So far, in the preparations for my travels I have contacted and sent in my visa application for my stay in Norway. Since I am going to be staying for nine months I am applying for a work permit under Ywam. This process takes at least two months to complete so I made sure I sent it in right away. I have not yet found airline tickets for my trip to Norway and back due to the restrictions on how early you can buy tickets. If you have any suggestions to what Web site I can locate cheaper tickets I will be very grateful. If you have not received my news letter or have yet to read it, the information below will tell about exactly what I will be doing. May God our savior always be your number one! shalisha Brace YWAM-2010-2011 April 7, 2010 Hello Dear Friends, I am so excited to inform you of the places God has laid on my heart to minister in this coming year. This summer I shall be working at Camp Nathanael along side of my parents for six weeks. The camp starts in June and ends in July. Pray that the campers as well as the workers will allow the Holy Spirit to lead them into a deeper understanding of our Salvation. I am also thankful that God has given me the opportunity to continue in ministry after the summer season. After Camp ends, God willing, I will be flying to Nordtun, Norway to begin in YWAM’s Discipleship Training School in September 3rd 2010! To those of you who are unfamiliar with the mission organization of Y.W.A.M. it is spelled out to be Youth with a Mission. I will be enrolled in their nine month DTS program and coming home May 28th 2011. This mission is to “know Jesus and Make him known!” I believe that this school year of learning more of Jesus Christ and going out to serve Him by serving the people of this world will give me a much needed knowledge of how foreign missions work. It will help prepare me for a life of full-time mission service after I have graduated from college. This DTS - Discipleship Training School will cost me approximately $10,000. This cost equals out to be about as much as attendance at a national Bible college. Except, I will be exposed to foreign aspects of ministry and most importantly I will be going where God has lead my heart. The raising of this money will be something that God alone can provide. He is great and can supply all my needs! I plead for your prayers for raising support. I ask that you prayerfully consider how you could help me financially. I ask for prayer for safety in this summer’s activities and into next year’s school year, and of my personal growth in the Lord and for all those who will be working beside me in ministry this year as we serve the Lord. Blessings to you, Shalisha Brace Matthew 28:18-20 About Nordtun DTS Where?- This discipleship training school is located in Nordtun which is located in Engavågen, a small community in the County of Nordland, Norway. On a Map it is located north of Mo I Rana and south of Bodo. The Base- I will be staying in an old boarding school along with around twenty other students. - The Base is surrounded by majestic mountains, fjords, and glaciers. The surroundings testify to the majesty of our Lord and are a perfect place to learn how to minister and develop a deeper relationship with our creator. DTS Schedule September 3, 2010- May 28, 2011 During the nine month DTS there will be thirteen weeks of lectures, twelve weeks of out door activities and regional team periods, and ten weeks of missions out-reach outside of Norway. We will be alternating between weeks of lectures, out-door activities, and regional out-reach. The main out-reach will take place in the middle of the school year, starting in January. Cost- School Fees for 2010 – 2011 -NOK 23 000 for the lecture phase - NOK 16 000 for the regionalteam periods and trips - NOK 21 000 for the Main Outreach -60,000 NOK, equals $10,000. - This does not include air plane travelling fees to Norway and back. I am in search of cheep tickets. Team Periods- Team periods are when the DTS breaks up into teams and has a chance to put into practice what we have learned in the class room. We will be traveling to areas in Nordland state and will be ministering to youth groups, churches, arranging activities, etc.In addition to this, I will get to choose a local ministry to be part of during the school year. Every second weekend we participate in local ministry in the nearby area. This could be going to youth cafes, Sunday schools and so on. Out-reach- As stated above, the outreach phase takes place for ten weeks in January as soon as our Christmas break is finished. This will be the main outreach mission trip and will be located outside of Norway. The country where we will be ministering will be decided at the beginning of the school year in September. Some of the possible outreach locations are; -Central Asia/Himalayas -Greenland, Alaska/ Canada -Central Europe Travel- Traveling is one of the main reasons that the cost for me to attend is so high. It is not just flying to arrive there and come home again. It is the flying, bus riding, and sailing to and from our outreaches during the school year. To arrive at the Base I must fly out of the U.S. to Olso in Norway. From Olso, I will take an 18 hour train to Bodo, and then I will be taking a bus to the base in Nordtun. When heading home in May, I will be taking the same route. To travel around during the local and Nordland state ministries, I will walk and ride with staff and other students living in the area. During the main outreach the team will fly and take a bus to reach our ministry site. Outdoor Activities- Nordtun’s DTS is one of only a few of Ywam’s DTS that have a focus on ministry combined with out-door adventure activities. It is a dimension that is exciting to have in a school. For all of us has spent a week in God’s creation and felt our relationship with God grow deeper because of that time. The outdoor program run by the school will be spread throughout the school year. We will be doing things like skiing, camping, and mountain hiking. I may also have free time during the week or on weekends where I can have some personal growing time with God and explore His creation.
